Jan 26 A Nice Alternative To WeatherBug Posted at 7:09 pm | No Comments »

An online friend of mine has written a new program called “WeatherUnbug”. Here are his notes about the release:
“Here’s a small alternative to WeatherBug without all the bundled junk. It currently only works for cities in the United States but I may update it for cities in outer countries.”

Jan 23 I Am Now A Professional Posted at 8:00 am | 1 Comment »

As of February 12, 2007, I will officially be a professional in the field of web development. On Monday, January 8, I was officially offered a position as the webmaster of a local college. The college has been growing immensely over the last few years, and the administration there decided it was finally time to create a full-time webmaster position at the school. After a long interview/courting process, they decided I was the man for the job.

I will be leaving my job as an office manager at a septic-hauling company, and pursuing my life-long dream of working as a webmaster. I will be working hand-in-hand with a new full-time graphic designer and a full-time PR director in order to design and develop the best web site we can possibly develop.

Jan 11 PicTaps - A Cool New Flash Application Posted at 10:29 am | 1 Comment »

On another forum I frequent, someone posted a link to an online application called PicTaps. I clicked on the link to check it out, and was truly blown away.

The application allows you to paint your own character in an interface similar to the old MS Paint GUI. Then, once you’ve built your person (or animal, or whatever other object you feel like drawing), you submit the image.

At that point, PicTaps builds an animation with your new character. The character shows up in the middle, with a whole bunch of clones all around. All of the characters on-screen start dancing and moving all around.

Jan 2 An interesting technological predicament Posted at 11:23 am | 2 Comments »

My father recently ran into an interesting technological predicament, and I’m somewhat curious as to how many other people have run into this sort of issue, and how aware people are of it.

He started a new job, where he’s working in a rather secure environment. Most of the people in his company have to have government clearances, and you’re not allowed to bring any sort of recorders or cameras into the building. However, when shopping for a new cell phone, he came across a small snag in that department.

It’s very difficult, nowadays, to find a cell phone that doesn’t come with a camera built in. Sure, for most of us, this is kind of nice. It means, no matter which phone we pick, we’ll end up with a digital camera. Sure, they don’t take the best quality pictures, but at least it gives us something to snap quick pics with. However, for him, that seemed to present a major problem. He could either pick a really crappy, low-end phone, or he could pick one with a camera built in, which most likely meant he wouldn’t be allowed to bring it into work.
