Rackspace Buying Customers’ Mac Upgrades

Rackspace logoRackspace announced today that they will pay for up to 1,000 licenses to upgrade their customers’ Macintosh computers to the latest version of Snow Leopard. If you sign up for a Rackspace account with Exchange server e-mail service, Rackspace will pay for each license you need to purchase in order to get your Macs upgraded to work with Exchange.

For those of you that don’t know, the new version of MacMail that’s shipping with Snow Leopard is apparently the first version of the default Mac e-mail client to support the Microsoft Exchange mail server. Prior to Snow Leopard, Mac users were forced to find alternate means of connecting to their Exchange e-mail accounts, either by using something like Entourage (the MS Office mail client for Mac) or by connecting via POP or IMAP.

Snow Leopard, however, now allows Mac users to connect to Exchange servers. Rackspace has apparently tested their Exchange servers to ensure that they work as intended with the new Mac Mail client.

If you’re a Mac user looking to upgrade to Snow Leopard and you’re also in the market for an extremely reliable and high-performance server, this sounds like the perfect deal for you.
